The Grand Prairie Karate Academy was started in 1979 by Dr. Brax Boyd. Ed.D., Ph.D. Since then it has been consistently among the top martial arts schools in the TKL (Traditional Karate League) tournament competition each year, and hosts one of the league's top-producing, well-managed and enjoyable annual competitions.

Dr. Boyd has taught contract history at Southwestern Adventist University in the past, and is presently teaching at Lamar High School in Arlington, Texas. He has started out with an outstanding and diversified sports and fitness career which included excellence in many different sports including football at eh collegiate level at the University of Texas at Arlington.

With a strong background in peak sports conditioning methods including weight lifting, management of Nautilius clinics in the mid-1970's, and overall competition skills on many levels, Dr. Boyd began his study of Tae-Kwon-Do and earned his first degree black belt in 1977.

In addition to martial arts instructor skills, he earned his Masters Degree in 1987 in Political Science and later his Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration at the University of North Texas.

Today Dr. Boyd holds a 5th degree master black belt and will be testing for his 6th degree master black belt in early 2005.
